Annual Wave of Light event in Wichita offers hope, healing to families who have lost a child
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Bridget’s Cradles hosted its annual Wave of Light event on Tuesday night.
The event is in recognition of Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Month. The free, community-wide event is meant to offer grieving families a night of remembrance, hope and healing.
The evening featured live worship, a candlelight remembrance and the signature hope walk, where families walk through a path illuminated by approximately 50,000 lights in memory of their lost babies.
Ashley Hopleiger, the executive director of Bridget’s Cradles said they put the event together to help families who have gone through the unimaginable.
“We want this to be a safe place to cry, to grieve, to remember. That’s why you’ll see around the light clusters items that families brought in memory of their baby,” said Hopleiger. “There’s photos and ultrasounds, teddy bears, flowers. It’s a place to memorialize their baby and remember their life and also hope for the future when we’ll get to see them again.”
Wave of Light is open to any family in the community that has experienced miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss, along with friends, extended family members and community members who wish to support them.
